Access to quality healthcare services is of utmost importance to meet the demands of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck donated much needed medical equipment to the hospitals in Bhutan

The Gyalyum Charitable Trust (GCT) on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck, donated a second round of medical equipment and COVID-19 relief goods including Oxygen Concentrators, Oxygen Regulators, B-30P BIPAP, and High Flow Humidifiers worth over 5 million Ngultrum to the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH).

The donation stems from Her Majesty the Queen Mother’s fundamental belief in providing equal access to safe, effective, and quality medical services to everyone, especially during the current pandemic.

The JDWNRH management expressed their gratitude to Her Majesty the Gyalyum for the medical equipment and COVID-19 relief goods, which they said will go a long way to support the health and well being of the people. The national hospital will facilitate the distribution of the donated medical goods to hospitals in high-risk areas and Regional Referral Hospitals.

Under the guidance and leadership of Her Majesty the Queen Mother, GCT will continue to support Bhutan’s fight against COVID-19. The first round of donations was made on the 25th of June 2021. COVID-19 relief goods including Oxygen Concentrators, Nasal Tubes, Surgical/Medical Face Masks, and PPE Suits worth 5 million Ngultrum were donated. GCT also contributed 7.6 million Ngultrum to His Majesty’s Kidu Fund for COVID-19 in 2020.

Her Majesty Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck expresses Her profound gratitude to His Majesty the King Druk Gyalpo Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck for providing extraordinary leadership and vision to keep the nation safe from this unprecedented pandemic.

Gyalyum Charitable Trust was established by Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck in 2016 to serve the disadvantaged and marginalised segments of the society. There are five organisations under the Trust that benefits the vulnerable women, youths, artisans, and monks.
