According to the astrologers from the Pangrizampa College of Astrology in Thimphu, the auspicious hour to take a ‘Thruebab’ bath to cleanse off bad deeds, obstructions and defilements is at 10.25 am on 23 Sept 2018.

Unlike the usual bath, the one done during Thruebab is considered very lucky. From a Buddhist’s perspective, it is said that all the natural water resources will be sanctified on Thruebab Day.

Recognising the significance of the Blessed Rainy Day, the government has declared the day as a national holiday since the 1980s.

What is the ‘Thruebab Day?’

Also known as the ‘Blessed Rainy Day’ in Bhutan, it is a holiday which marks the end of the monsoon season. It is also the beginning of the harvest season.

The most auspicious hour for the ablution (bath ritual) is determined by astrologers in the service of the Je Khenpo, the chief abbot of Bhutan.

Similar to Tibetan practice, the Bhutanese refer to the Tibetan Lunar Calendar to determine the exact day and most auspicious time for taking a ‘Thruebab’.

A very important day for Bhutanese, taking a‘Thruebab’ must not be missed for it is believed to rid one of accumulated bad karma.
