The 10th edition of the Mountain Echoes, a festival of art, literature and culture will be held from August 22 to 25 in Thimphu, Bhutan. Her Majesty the Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck will grace the festival.

Themed ‘Many Lives, Many Stories’ -  the festival, according to the press  release, will mark its 10th anniversary with modern Bhutanese music.

There will also be a fresh take on Bhutanese food and drink as well as a plethora of modern Bhutanese lifestyle and cultural products on August 17 at the Namgay Artisanal Brewery (NAB) Bistro in Paro.

More about the Mountain Echoes Literary Festival 

Presented by the Jaypee Group, the four-day festival is an initiative of the India-Bhutan Foundation, in association with Siyahi.

The 10th edition of the Mountain Echoes Literary Festival brings together both Bhutanese and foreign writers, biographers, historians, environmentalists, scholars, photographers, poets, musicians, artists, film-makers to engage in cultural dialogues, share stories and create memories in the pristine mountains of Bhutan.

Mountain Echoes enjoys the patronage of Her Majesty the Royal Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck.

Performances to watch out for

Pawo  Choyning  Dorji’s latest  film - 'Lunana: A Yak in the classroom', 'The  Next Guardian',  a creative documentary film by Arun Bhattarai, and 'Searching for Wives' by Zuki Juno Tobgye will also be screened during the festival.

 

'The  Next Guardian' is a love-filled portrait of a family in Bhutan. The daughter wants be a soccer pro, while the son has doubts about becoming a monk.

Khandro  Yeshey  Tshogyal  –  The Real Treasure, a performance by Charmi Chheda on the Buddhist goddess who was the consort of Guru Padmasambhava will also be performed.

The 10th edition of the festival will feature the following speakers from Bhutan:

  1. Lt Col Kesang Choeden (Founder of Chuniding Food)
  2. Khenpo Karchung (a Sanskrit teacher)
  3. Lopen Lungtaen Gyatso (President of the College of Language and Culture Studies)
  4. author Chador Wangmo and
  5. Sonam Pelden (Technology entrepreneur, FORBES 30 under 30)

Speakers from India include:

  1. Venerable Kabir Saxena (Founder and director Of Root Institute for Wisdom Culture and a monk since 2002)
  2. Actress Bhumi Pednekar
  3. Principal economic advisor to the  Government of India, Sanjeev Sanyal
  4. and author of ‘The Shooting Star’, Shivya Nath

International speakers attending the festival are:

  1. Xyza Bacani, a Filipina documentary photographer based  in  Hong  Kong
  2. Neil MacGregor, Director of the National Gallery, London (1987-2002)
  3. Director of the British Museum (2002-2015), and
  4. Australian digital rockstar, Toby Walsh
