King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck's Unofficial Trip to Singapore

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck visits Singapore in September 2023.

His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is currently on an unofficial visit to Singapore, where he has been engaged in several significant events and meetings. During his trip, he had met with Singapore's newly elected President, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, as well as Ng Kok Song, one of the three presidential candidates. A highlight of his visit was attending the inauguration ceremony of Tharman Shanmugaratnam as Singapore's 9th President, an event of great diplomatic importance.

His Majesty and Queen Jetsun Pema have also recently experienced a joyous personal milestone with the birth of their first daughter on September 9, 2023. While the royal princess is yet to be named, she holds a special place as the third child of the royal couple.

Singapore and Bhutan share a deep and warm relationship, marked by mutual respect and cooperation. This camaraderie was further strengthened when His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema visited Singapore on March 28, 2015, to pay their respects to the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the founding father of Singapore. Notably, the year 2023 holds special significance for Singapore, as it marks the 100th birth anniversary (LKY100) of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, who was born on September 16, 1923. The nation is commemorating this milestone with various events, including the minting of 4 million commemorative coins in denominations of $10. 

Singapore is currently packed with visitors from all over the world as it plays host to the Singapore Grand Prix 2023 - F1 Race. This Formula 1 event, held for the 14th time at the Marina Bay Circuit Street from September 15th to 17th, has drawn a significant number of visitors from around the world. The thrilling race on Sunday, September 17, culminated with Carlos Sainz of Ferrari emerging as the victor, capturing the excitement and attention of a massive crowd, totaling 264,108 spectators.
