His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck's Official Journey in India

His Majesty The King, accompanied by senior officials of the government, is currently on an official visit to India from 3-10 November 2023.

During the visit, His Majesty met many senior officials including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India and Bhutan share exceptional bonds of friendship and collaboration marked by a profound understanding and mutual confidence. This visit offers a chance for both nations to assess their comprehensive cooperation and strengthen their outstanding bilateral partnership, spanning various fields.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in Assam (3rd Nov 2023)

His Majesty kickstarted the weeklong visit in Guwahati. He was warmly welcomed by the the Chief Minister, His Excellency Himanta Biswa Sarma, members of the cabinet and senior government officials of the state government at Lokpriya Gopinath International Airport in Guwahati. 

Upon arriving in Guwahati, His Majesty visited the revered Kamakhya Temple located atop the Nilachal hills in the city, and offered prayers. The Foreign Secretary of India, His Excellency Vinay Kwatra called on His Majesty later in the day.
The Governor of Assam, His Excellency Gulab Chand Kataria, organized a cultural event and dinner in honor of His Majesty The King during the visit to Assam.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister of Assam, His Excellency Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with state ministers and senior government officials, paid a courtesy call on His Majesty The King.


Additionally, His Majesty had the opportunity to meet with Bhutanese students in Guwahati.

This marks His Majesty's inaugural official visit to Assam, a state with which Bhutan and Bhutanese people share a close neighborly relationship. While in Assam, His Majesty paid a visit to the renowned Kaziranga National Park.

The official visit to Assam underscores the enduring bonds of friendship between Bhutan and India, as reflected in the amicable interactions and goodwill shared among the people of Bhutan and neighboring Indian states.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in Assam (4th Nov 2023)

On the second day of the official visit to India, His Majesty The King granted an Audience to the faculty of education institutions in Assam, led by the Education Minister of Assam, His Excellency Dr. Ranoj Pegu, in Guwahati.
His Majesty then travelled to Golaghat district, to visit Kaziranga National Park. His Majesty was received at Jorhat Airport by Her Excellency Ajanta Neog, the Finance Minister of Assam.

Kaziranga National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is home to the world’s largest population of the Indian Rhinoceros.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in Delhi (5th & 6th Nov 2023)

His Majesty The King was welcomed to Delhi by India's Minister of External Affairs, HE Dr. S Jaishankar. Following a highly productive trip to Assam, His Majesty arrived in Delhi on November 5, continuing his official weeklong visit to India. In the evening, HE Dr. Jaishankar paid a courtesy visit to His Majesty The King. Additionally, His Majesty held a meeting with HE Ajit Doval, the National Security Advisor of India.
On November 6th, His Majesty The King had an audience with the Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Narendra Modi, in Delhi. The Prime Minister of India extended a warm welcome to His Majesty at his official residence, where they engaged in discussions covering a wide range of topics that hold mutual interest for Bhutan and India. Subsequently, His Excellency hosted a dinner in honor of His Majesty The King.


During the stay in Delhi, His Majesty convened meetings with members of the Bhutan Friendship Association (IBFA) and the Delhi Study Group, an NGO committed to fostering diplomacy through people-to-people connections. Moreover, His Majesty held discussions with several prominent business leaders.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in Mumbai (7th & 8th Nov 2023)

In the final part of His Majesty’s 8-day Official Visit to India, His Majesty The King was warmly welcomed to Mumbai, in Maharashtra on the 7th Nov.

His Majesty The King was received by the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, His Excellency Devendra Fadnavis. Later in the day, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, His Excellency Eknath Shinde called on His Majesty. In the evening, the Governor of Maharastra, His Excellency Ramesh Bais, hosted a dinner in honour of His Majesty The King.

While in Mumbai, His Majesty also met with prominent business leaders of India.
